🔑 Getting settled

Bodrennick is the large stone house behind the black gates, just before and almost opposite The Royal Standard.

Most outdoor combination locks use the familiar opening sequence supplied to you privately, including access towards the beach.

🏖️ The beach on your doorstep

The beach below Bodrennick is one of the great pleasures of staying here. It is ideal for a swim, a paddle, a quiet coffee or simply watching boats pass.

Part of the beach belongs to Bodrennick. At low tide, walkers can sometimes reach our side from the neighbouring shoreline. Above roughly half tide, access from elsewhere becomes much more difficult.

🏄 Paddleboards

There are four medium-sized paddleboards for guests. The paddles and associated bits and pieces should be in the white box beside the old garage.

• Check the fin, leash and paddle before launching.
• Wear a buoyancy aid and keep an eye on both wind and tide.
• Stay reasonably close to shore, especially if the wind is blowing away from the beach.
• Rinse off salt and sand, then return everything to the storage box.

♨️ Hot-tub happiness

The hot tub is supplied by Dutchy Hot Tubs. Their full instructions should be in the large bag behind it. The controls are reassuringly simple:

The daily filter shuffle

There should be at least two filters, and possibly four. The easiest routine is:

1. Put a clean filter in for the night.
2. Wash the used filter during the following day.
3. Swap them over daily, allowing each one time to be cleaned properly.

Give the floating dispenser a gentle shake now and again. When the tablet has disappeared, add one replacement tablet.

🔥 Fire pit and barbecue

The fire pit has two personalities: use the high position as a barbecue and the low position as a fire pit. Seasoned timber is stored farther down the continuation of the drive, on the right-hand side.

🍳 Oven, hob and kitchen

We will give you a quick demonstration of the Samsung oven and hob. They are much easier once someone has shown you. Should you forget, the model instructions can be found online.

Please use the kitchen extractor whenever cooking, particularly with a full house.

⛵ Sailing from your armchair

Bodrennick has a superb view of the harbour and Carrick Roads. Racing often takes place around Flushing on Tuesdays and off Falmouth at weekends. The Royal Cornwall Yacht Club is almost directly opposite across the water.

Sit outside with binoculars and a drink, then confidently discuss every tactical decision whether or not you understand it.

🥾 Walks straight from the door

Walk through Flushing and continue along Trefusis Road towards Trefusis Point for wonderful harbour and woodland views. Farther along is a sandy beach with paddleboard hire and a pre-bookable beach sauna.

• Trefusis Point – an easy local favourite with beautiful water views.
• Flushing Beach – a pleasant walk, particularly when the tide is kind.
• Beach sauna – book online before setting off.

⛴️ Take the ferry to Falmouth

The Flushing Ferry is the most enjoyable way to reach Falmouth. It normally runs from Flushing Quay to Prince of Wales Pier, often around the hour and half-hour in the main season, but always check the current timetable.

Falmouth is excellent for:

• independent clothes shops, cafés and restaurants;
• the harbour and waterfront;
• galleries and the National Maritime Museum;
• Pendennis Castle and coastal walks;
• wandering without a plan.

🌿 Gardens and days out

🏄‍♂️ Fancy surfing?

For Atlantic waves, head to the north coast. Perranporth, Porthtowan, Gwithian and Newquay are all possibilities. Choose according to the forecast and your experience rather than simply following the nearest surfboard on a roof rack.

☀️ A rather good Bodrennick day

Doing almost nothing beyond sitting in the garden and admiring the view is also entirely acceptable.
